alas, i'm now a sophomore. and can't change the damn url.
Right before I go to bed
and while the rest of you are getting ready for it, or are already in it, i pose the question:
is there one album that you can actually say had a profound effect on your life? and if so why?
(let it be known i’m under the influence of sleeping pills and i’m feeling very, very loopy right now)
if i had to choose one album that really affected me it would be “morning view” by incubus.
for those of you who are unfamiliar, with it: to me it’s almost the perfect alt-rock album, and it’s what opened my mind to the whole alt-rock scene of the early 00’s. It’s got the perfect blend of “i miss you and love you” and “fuck you, don’t come back” songs that i have not seen in another album since.
my best friend burned me a copy (back when that was still, ya know, legal?) and i listened to that thing (way before itunes) so many times that the cd virtually stopped working. i know that everyone has that one go-to song that they listen to anytime that they’re having a shitty day, this is my cd that i run to. there’s not a song on the planet that’s as chill, and laid back as the last track ‘aqueous transmission’ (go listen to it, i bet you feel like peeing your pants).
the main reason that i made this post is because today i was sitting here at my desk still kinda soaking in the fact that hey, i made it through my first year of college, when ‘warning’ came on the itunes shuffle. the line (well, the whole chorus) ‘she woke in the morning, she knew that her life had passed her by…she called out a warning, don’t ever let life pass you by’, hearing that sends chills up my spine everytime that i hear it. while i was sitting here, reflecting on stuff i remembered that this cd was the one that made me love music. this was one of the first cd’s that i thoroughly listened to, and memorized every word. looking back on it i’m pretty sure it’s the one that changed my whole perspective on music. before it there was the creed and limp bizkit that we all listened to - where every song sounded the same - but morning view was the reason that i have such a passion for music.
i’m getting off my soapbox now.
